April 2025 · Tsokha, Sikkim India · Sachen, Sikkim India

Tsokha and Sachen. Where boots press iron boards above the gorge and canvas waits against the cold ridge.

The earth here begins by letting go. A single rope holds the weight of a morning, stretched taut between stone and forest while the mist decides nothing.

Light does not fall so much as linger. It stays in the wool of an animal waiting on the slope, and it catches the torn edge of a prayer flag where the valley wind thins out. There is only the sound of footfalls on iron slats and the heavy breath of the ridge.

We walk because the ground asks for it, carrying what will fit under canvas until the weather turns.
